4th Saturday of the month

Mitcham Brown Owls pic -Designed and drawn by Jo Schofield

I was a bit excited when I woke up today... not just because it was the weekend but also because it was the 4th Saturday of the month which meant Brown Owls day! "Brown Owls is a worldwide craft gang established by Meet Me At Mike's, Pip Lincolne & Kootoyoo's Kirsty MacAfee in 2007"    You can read about it here.

A lovely (and very patient) lady, Lianne Gould, is the organiser of the Mitcham Brown Owls where I go.

Each month there is a different craft/skill you can learn or you can bring your own project to carry on with. There is always help at hand if you need it and you can enjoy the company of like minded souls.  There is also a little bit of wine, cheese and a lots of chatter and laughs!!

Today one of the ladies in the group, Sally,  brought along her spinning wheel and we could have a go at spinning. I had done this years ago but had a go today. It's very therapeutic.  Sally continued on with her spinning and we all thought the clicking of the spinning wheel was extremely relaxing.

I went there today without a project in mind. Lianne had some crochet books on the table and I found a crocheted triangle scarf in one of them which I loved. Lianne helped me with the pattern and as you can see I managed to get a good start on it. I'll keep you posted on my progress. I think I might get some black wool and make one with coloured pom poms on the edge as well!

It's a great group to join and I look forward to the 4th Saturday of each month. If you live in Adelaide maybe you would like to join us at Brown Owls.

Random acts!

Beautiful Flowers

I had to call into my local supermarket this morning to get a few things.  It was early, I was tired and wasn't feeling over cheery.  I picked up the items I needed and then a lovely lady who works there gave me some flowers.  Just gave them to me, no cost, free!! I guess they are nearly past their best but I think they look lovely. They smell amazing and it has made my day.  That lovely lady didn't have to choose me to give them to, but I am very grateful she did.

It made my morning!!

Not quite a collector!

A good friend of mine, Wendy, told me you need 3 of something to be a collector.  Wendy is an avid collector of lots of things. I'm just starting this collecting thing and my love of chooks is going to be my thing!

The first chook I got is the green one. I received this for my birthday from work, along with an antique wooden wheelbarrow.

The other one I found at The Vintage Carousel, a cute little vintage shop in Bowden, South Australia.

My mission now is to find a third chook so I can be a 'collector'!

Stay tuned to see what chook I find to add to my collection.
